NOMEX 411

NOMEX 411 is a low-density and highly flexible model within the Nomex insulation paper series of DuPont. Compared to the flagship model 410, 411 sacrifices some mechanical strength and dielectric strength in exchange for excellent flexibility, adhesion, and wetting properties.

NOMEX 411 features

  • Low-density structure: The density is approximately 0.3–0.7 g/cm³ (much lower than ~1.0 g/cm³ of 410), with a high internal porosity.
  • Excellent flexibility and conformability: The texture is soft, allowing for easy bending and folding. It can closely fit complex and irregular insulation areas without creating air gaps due to rebound.
  • Excellent resin impregnation: The porous structure enables the insulation varnish to quickly and thoroughly penetrate during VPI (vacuum pressure impregnation) or ordinary impregnation processes, forming an extremely well-integrated insulation system after curing.
  • High-temperature resistance grade: Also belongs to H-class insulation, with a rated continuous operating temperature of 220°C.
  • Lower dielectric strength: Due to the low density and presence of air gaps, its inherent dielectric strength is lower than 410. However, after being fully impregnated with resin, its dielectric performance will significantly improve and meet the usage requirements.

NOMEX 411 applications

  • Complex shape wrapping: Hand wrapping insulation for motor end windings, lead terminals, and special-shaped components.
  • VPI impregnation system: As an interlayer/inter-turn insulation material for dry-type transformers or high-voltage motors, it relies on subsequent impregnation to achieve final insulation performance.
  • Filling and buffering: Filling strips below the slot wedges, soft padding for phase-to-phase spacer blocks.
  • Low/medium voltage motors: Suitable for applications where mechanical stress is not a major concern but good adhesion is required.
  • Composite material base: The base paper before being combined with materials such as polyester film (due to its rough surface that is conducive to bonding).
