NOMEX 464

NOMEX 464 is a single-sided coated (Resin-Coated) special type within the Nomex insulation paper series of DuPont. It is coated on one side of the standard Nomex aramid paper with a layer of thermosetting resin (typically polyester or epoxy adhesives), giving it self-adhesion and enhanced composite properties.

NOMEX 464 features
- Single-sided resin coating: One side of the paper is smooth and coated with an active resin layer, while the other side retains the original fibrous texture of Nomex paper.
- Thermal activation self-adhesive: Under heating and pressure conditions (typically 150°C–180°C), the coated resin melts and cures, firmly adhering 464 to copper conductors, iron cores, interlayer gaskets, or other insulating materials.
- Excellent interlayer adhesion: After curing, it forms an extremely strong integrated insulation structure, effectively preventing the coil from shifting or wearing out under electromagnetic force vibration.
- Preservation of Nomex substrate properties: The uncoated side still maintains H-class (220°C) heat resistance, high mechanical strength, and flame retardancy.
- Improvement of impregnation compatibility: The resin coating is well compatible with most conventional insulating resins (VPI resin), and there is no risk of delamination after curing.
NOMEX 464 applications
- Dry-type transformer interlayer insulation: As the interlayer pad for the coil layers, it is thermally pressed and firmly bonded to the wires, preventing short circuits and vibration noise.
- Motor slot insulation fixation: The coated surface faces the core or wedge, and is adhered and fixed after heating, simplifying the assembly process.
- Lead wire wrapping and joint insulation: After winding, it achieves self-adhesive sealing through local heating, without the need for additional tape.
- Composite material substrate: Heat-pressed with polyester film (Mylar) and polyimide film (Kapton) to manufacture multi-layer insulation structures such as NMN and NHN.
- Preformed insulation parts: Used for manufacturing fixed-shaped end baffles and phase-spacing plates, and after heat pressing to shape, the dimensions remain stable.
